The Powerful and Obnoxious Odor of Mendacity

Ro

I knew it was time for us to talk politics; thanks for the conversation starter.

Sarah Palin is a “cocky wacko.” She is a liar, and she scares me. Since her nomination announcement, I have had nightmares in which she hunts me much like the way General Zaroff hunts Rainsford in The Most Dangerous Game.

Governor Palin did not oppose the infamous “Bridge to Nowhere,” yet she and her supporters continue to argue against this fact. Sarah Palin is not against earmarks; someone needs to take a peek at Alaska’s financial records. Sarah “Pit Bull” Palin is a proponent of censorship; when a librarian in Wasilla, Alaska disagreed with Palin’s censorship position, Mayor Palin asked for her resignation. Mayor Palin backed down once she realized that her decision to fire the librarian was not supported by the majority of the community. And, like my sweet grandmother used to say, “the half ain’t never been told.”

So, why are many of our fellow citizens falling for the okey-doke? Because Sarah Palin personifies American arrogance; unconscionable self-righteousness is the American way. We thrive on our false sense of moral superiority. We like being recipients of lies—mendacity makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside; conversely, the truth tends to hurt like hell.

We all know that Senator Obama was not calling the Pit Bull a pig, but he just might have been calling her the lipstick. Sarah Palin is the pretty face that the Republicans have decided to put on dirty politics.

The truth is that we will not be able to “sound byte” our way through another eight years. This could be our time; however, we must have the strength of heart that is necessary to take an honest look at the condition of this nation and of the world. We need honorable action, and we need it now.

God bless America.
