Nashville and Newspapers
NASHVILLE:

Ahhh, Nashville, Tennessee (Vanderbilt University)— our meeting place. Sometimes I revisit the memories of our time together: Do you remember when we discovered that we could use our lunch cards to buy books at the Vanderbilt University book store? LOL. I was one starving sistah… LOL.
Needless to say, I am delighted to be able to participate in this conversation with you, friend. I look forward to many more of our public and private exchanges.
NEWSPAPERS:
Ro, I miss working as a journalist.
Sometimes.
I miss writing pithy headlines and choosing front-page stories. I miss the fervor of young reporters. I miss writing magazine features. Sometimes I simply miss being a part of the hustle and bustle of the newsroom.
However, I agree with you, friend; it does look like we escaped the whipping that journalists will have take in order to preserve the craft. I, too, hope journalists (young and old) will fight a good fight and find inventive ways to get essential information to the masses. Our society needs trained reporters, reporters who understand that information has the power to change our world. As much as I love the blogsphere, we cannot afford lose our muckrakers to those of us who blog as a hobby. Necessity is the mother of invention; let’s hope that those who hold the purse strings see the existence of newspapers as a necessity.
